Oct 1 2008, 9:30 AM EDT
Born Loudoun 1780 Died Loudoun 1846Andrew was my GGGGF. I understand that he is buried at Loudoun Kirk (presumably an unmarked grave). Any additional indformation on the exact location of the grave would be welcome. This site is a fantastic piece of work and I am entirely grateful for the efforts of the individuals who pulled this together. Best regards Gordon Do you find this valuable? |

2. Jane (Lawson) Walker c1770-1843

Jane Lawson married John Walker and became ancestors of a whole lot of Walkers in the upper Irvine Valley. I have been doing some heavy research on my Walker ancestors and know that my ancestor Matthew Walker 1767-1858 was the son of Hugh Walker and helen Campbell of Bridgeburnbent and that he had a sister Jean. I also have it from somewhere that he had a brother John. I also know that Hugh's father was also John but I do not know who his wife was. By all accounts in naming chronologies Matthew might have also had a sister Helen and another brother Hugh. He certainly named his only known child - Helen, according to tradition. Gavin also seems to be a traditional Walker name as is Margaret.John m Jane Lawson might be his brother however I have other possibilities: John m Agnes McClanachan also fits as a possible brother within the time perspective and Gavin the father of John m Jean Campbell might be another long shot. Although the Walker family expanded exponentially in the 1800's I think it may have been no more than three or four families mid 1700's and I ewould like to get to the bottom of it - I have spent quite a lot of time researching what are probably other person's trees but as they are all probably linked no harm can be done and I am more than willing to share what I have found. Difficulties include the use of family names as already noted - they occur many times in each generation and therefore there were many John Walkers. For interest Matthew Walker's first name is a ring-in as it is not a common Walker name - must have come from the Campbell side - also Matthew was in the army - originally I know not what regiment but he ended up in the 6th Veterens Division at Fort George where his daughter Helen was born in 1807. Helen of course married Matthew Caldwell at Galston and the rest is Caldwell history. Tom Caldwell Do you find this valuable? |
