I was born in Kilmarnock but spent sme of my early childhood at Bankhead Cottage - some of the land attached to Bankhead joined on to the wall of Loudoun Kirk and I remember it fairly well. My parents were unaware that oour family had once lived in Galston. My GGGGrandfather John Caldwell was married to Mary Morton and later Agnes McClanachan and had a family of thirteen children. The eldest two sons moved away after marrying (Alan & Janet Hunter and three children to Sydney Mines Cape Breton Island) where Alan was unfortunately killed in a mining accidnet three years later. My ancestor Matthew married helen Walker and shortly afterwards moved to Riccarton. However other sons stayed in the area and had large familes - John & Anne Woodburn (later marrying Martha Yeudall) and David and Isabella Robertson.
